Thin Quiet Sound

“The Lord said, ‘Go out and stand at the mountain before the Lord. The Lord is passing by.’ A very strong wind tore through the mountains and broke apart the stones before the Lord. But the Lord wasn’t in the wind. After the wind, there was an earthquake. But the Lord wasn’t in the earthquake. After the earthquake, there was a fire. But the Lord wasn’t in the fire. After the fire, there was a sound. Thin. Quiet.” (1 Kings 19:11-12)

The All-Powerful and Glorious being that created the world and everything in it has some much strength, power, and knowledge that is beyond our reckoning. In this passage from 1 Kings we find Elijah the prophet running for his life because he is last of the Lords prophets left. Everyone else has been killed by a woman named, Jezebel.

Which explains why my dad always warned about dating a jezebel.

Imagine for a second the surpassing power that the Lord has?

By his power he causes earthquakes, the rain to pour down, violent winds that tear through mountains, but when he speaks….

It is thin and quiet.

As if he is speaks very softly to our very souls.

Human logic would assume that with a being as powerful as the Lord our God that everything he does is with power, and maybe it is, just not in the way we think.

Cause make no mistake about it there is power in the words of the Lord. From his words the world came into existence. One second the earth was formless and void and the next light explodes because the Lord said so.

I guess I assume that if God’s words are powerful they must be loud also.

Probably because I myself get passionately loud when I think about the amazing works about our Lord God.

So, do me a favor. If you are reading this post please silence all noise around you. (As you read this I am muting spotify)

Now listen.

Hear that?

The Lord has just said something to you and I. It could be anything. Sometimes our lives are so loud that its hard to hear the Lord’s voice. My life is loud. I have a lot of cool tech devices that make noises and you know when I was a little boy you know I had toys that made noise.

Sometimes we need to just mute the world because our creator has something to say to us. So, the next time you pray, listen for what your creator has for you to hear. I promise you it will amaze you to the very core.
