“And we know that God causes everything to work together for good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them.”
Today is Good Friday. The day in which we recognize the sacrifice that our Lord Jesus Christ willingly did for all. One phrase that has been probing my mind this week is a phrase that Jesus said often in his earthly ministry:
“I laid my life down willingly”
All week the Holy Spirit was reminding of that truth.
That it wasn’t that we killed him, but that He willingly laid his life down for the world. This is a crazy thought because Christ left all of glory in heaven to be born to a virgin in a barn, hung out with sinners his whole life, preached the truth and because of this he was killed, but it wasn’t that way because…
He willingly allowed himself to be tortured so that we could experience the abundant life that our God so desires to give us. So tonight I pray that we reflect on what that means to us today. What does it mean for Christ to die for our sins?
Heres another probing and very sobering thought.
What if this never happened?
Where would we be then?
Praise God that he willingly died so that we may live. My life is more because of what my Christ did for me and I am so incredibly thankful for him! I cannot put into words the praise that I want to give my Lord. I couldn’t praise him enough because I am such a wretch that was blind and now I see.
Father God,
Help us to draw more near to you and to praise you in our very limited ability. We confess that your sacrifice baffles us at times. For such an amazing God to willingly die for the likes of this world is so amazing! Thank you Lord for the life you give us! Help us to take this message and to live out your commandments until we meet you face to face! In your son’s holy and precious name we pray.
Amen.
