Day 23: No

What have you to fear? God is with you. Let the words of David’s thoughts from Psalm 139 be a reminder of how true this song is and shall be for now until the end of the age.

Lord, you have examined me.
You know me.
2 You know when I sit down and when I stand up.
Even from far away, you comprehend my plans.
3 You study my traveling and resting.
You are thoroughly familiar with all my ways.
4 There isn’t a word on my tongue, Lord,
that you don’t already know completely.
5 You surround me—front and back.
You put your hand on me.
6 That kind of knowledge is too much for me;
it’s so high above me that I can’t fathom it.
7 Where could I go to get away from your spirit?
Where could I go to escape your presence?
8 If I went up to heaven, you would be there.
If I went down to the grave,[a] you would be there too!
9 If I could fly on the wings of dawn,
stopping to rest only on the far side of the ocean—
10 even there your hand would guide me;
even there your strong hand would hold me tight!
11 If I said, “The darkness will definitely hide me;
the light will become night around me,”
12 even then the darkness isn’t too dark for you!
Nighttime would shine bright as day,
because darkness is the same as light to you!

No amount of anything in this world will give you what you need. What you need comes from the Father. Only the love and grace of Jesus Christ can fill the needs of your desires of your heart and your very soul. It is quite comforting knowing that no matter what we go through in this life that God will never let go of us. NO! He wont! You are always in the palm of God’s hand.

Today Father in Heaven we pray that you hold us in your grace and wash us in your spirit and help us to know that you are always with us! Thank you Father for your faithful love and forgiveness in our lives. Help us to always praise you in all that we do.

Amen.

Day 22: Shadow

889028_10200904423879129_420081606_o

“He does not treat us as our sins deserve or repay us according to our iniquities. For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is his love for those who fear him; as far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us. As a father has compassion on his children, so the Lord has compassion on those who fear him; for he knows how we are formed, he remembers that we are dust.”  (Psalm 103)

Our shadow is always with us and for some of us this is an example of the feeling that sometimes our sins seem to follow us everywhere we go. Every time I think about this I think of this passage from Psalm 103 and how powerfully redemptive it is. Sometimes I think we forget that our Heavenly Father is just that a Father in all things. As a Father he shows compassion as a parent would, but the compassion that He shows is far more than we could ever fathom of giving.

Shadow is a term that is interpreted sometimes as a bad thing, but let us think that what Jesus has taught and the “Shadow” that followed him and as we follow him may we soak up all that was in him, and by the same token think of the shadow that you are leaving. The legacy that we are leaving for those that watch the way we live in the Lord Jesus Christ. Shadows do not always have to be a bad. Just like the Father has shown us let our shadows be filled with compassion.

And take heart and know that “For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is his love for those who fear him.”

Amen.

Day 21: Night

One of the newest blessings that has come to my wife and my life is the ability to minister to some college students at Southwestern University. It is a great opportunity for Amy and I to open up our home and give a home cooked meal to some of the college students at Southwestern University, but it is also a chance for us to do some ministry with these students.

For some this would be seem to be not a big deal at all.

And if we are not careful and don’t look closely at what this truly is we would miss it as well.

I am reminded of Matthew 25 when Jesus says that when we show caring for the least of these we show caring to Jesus himself. Now, in this passage you will see that Jesus refers to people that are in prison, sick, or hungry. I would urge us to think that its everyone that we come in contact with that Jesus is referring to.

Because of this simple act of making tacos and playing games we show that we care for their lives and for what is going on in their lives. Because of this we bringing light into the darkness or in this photo’s case we bring day into night.

So, what are some simple ways that we can show Christ’s caring?

Day 20: Bless

Today I had the honor and privilege of teaching a workshop at First United Methodist Church in Georgetow, TX entitled, “Facebook 101: Being a 21st Century Disciple.” It was an amazing experience of fellow brother and sisters in Christ coming together and learning about what Facebook is and why it matters to how we connect with the world, and largely how we can use this technology to share the Good News of Jesus Christ.

Some of you will come to this blog, methodork.com from a post that I have put on Facebook. We live in a very fast-paced world where everything is happens at light speed. As disciples I believe a large part of all of our call is to connect to world and to God. I believe that we are the bridge that connects people to God, and Jesus living within us helps us to bridge this gap. It is only by His love and grace that we are able to make this happen, it’s not about us, it’s completely and utterly about Jesus’ love and grace that bridges this gap.

Facebook is a tool that helps us to do that.

Just like any other tool in this world it can be used for good or not so good, but we as Disciples when we committed to follow Christ, committed to be His servants of connecting. We committed to using this tool and everything in our lives for His glory alone. Facebook is just one way to do this, but it is clear from the Great Commission that we have a job to do.

So, I challenge you today. How are you connecting? Is it for your glory or for Jesus’ glory? How can we differently use Facebook and all social media for that matter as a tool that we use to point the world to Christ?

Almighty God,

Help us to recognize the calling that you have placed on all our lives to point the world to your Son, Jesus Christ. Help us to use the tools in our lives to share of the Love and Grace of Jesus Christ. In your Son’s Holy and Precious name we pray.

Amen.

Leaving and Thirsting

Day 19: Thirst

Both of these pictures for me lead to same end, leaving what God has done and thirsting for more and more of His awesome swagger! God says to the Israelites in the book of Isaiah very confidently that they have seen nothing yet, there is this swagger about God that makes me smile, but not a swagger like we would think or even expect.

God loves us.

To the most massive possible level, so massive that the word massive dwarfs in comparison to the how big it truly is.

Think of the most massive thing that you can.

For me its the surpassing galaxies that God created. The millions and millions of galaxies in our universe that He made. My mind cannot comprehend the size of this PART of creation. It’s just a part of it.

Amazing.

So, today know that today blessings are

New.

Fresh.

Alive.

And tomorrow it will start again.

So we leave and we thirst for more.
